Academic careers revolve around tenure-track faculty jobs, although there are other paths.
Types
The tenure track faculty is the most prestigious path. You are hired as a “tenure track” faculty member and then evaluated after about 6 years to become a “tenured” faculty member, after which the job is more or less guaranteed for the rest of your life.
