Bicycle is efficient
Infrastructure always comes up when talking about Urban design and Urban mobility because a bicycle is an extremely efficient way to move people and things around.
The bicycle is the most efficient machine ever created. Converting calories into gas, a bicycle gets the equivalent of three thousand miles per gallon Moreover, if we are not talking about Ebike, most of the energy spent on a bicycle is ‘good’ because that’s the exercise that the rider gets to do. Even if we consider Ebikes, the energy is almost negligible compared with cars. Also given that a cheap bicycle can last a long time with not a lot of maintenance, nothing comes close to the bicycle in terms of environment-friendly transportation.
Furthermore, it is space-efficient. Given the same width, a bike lane can move several times more people than a car lane. A single car-parking spot can host a couple of dozens of bikes.
Therefore, if a city has a well-connected and safe Network, that can move people and things extremely efficiently, both in terms of space and energy.
