The distribution of the number of shared nodes has a heavy tail in many Bipartite network, which can’t be explained by the degree alone. This is like saying that there are way more 4-loops than expected.
The representation model is proposed in Serrano2012uncovering.
In the appendix, the paper shows that the model is approximately equivalent to a model, where the degree emerges from radial coordinates.
